Galaxy Nexus banned in the USA - for resembling Siri's interface
Well, we have another episode of the patent wars: Apple'owi managed to win a temporary ban on sales of Samsung Galaxy Nexus in the United States. U.S. court decided that Samsung infringed on Google's smartphone manufactured for 4 of the patents owned by Apple.
The key was the marked patent number 8,086,604 ('604), which applies to search multiple sources using a single interface (as does Siri). Other patents are 5,946,647 (Actionable linking), 8046721 (slide-to-unlock), and 8,074,172 (word suggestions when typing text on the touch screen). The court ruled that the Galaxy Nexus availability in the market can cause irreparable damage to Apple in the form of loss of market share and sales of the device should be banned by the end of the trial.
By banning the sale took effect, Apple has to declare financial security in the amount of 96 million dollars. Most likely, the final judgment will be the same as the initial decision, unless of course Samsung does not in any way prove that, however, does not violate patents identified.
The decision of the court was influenced by the fact that Google Quick Search Box feature sets in promotional materials as a key component of Android (version 4.0). On the other hand Apple's Siri with interested buyers chose the iPhone 4S.
Positive for Apple's consideration of the matter can be a gate to block the U.S. market sales of all smartphones with Android 4.0 and higher.
